BIRTH CHART CALCULATOR GUIDE
What is a birth chart and what does this calculator show?
A birth chart, also called a natal chart or astrology chart, is a map of where the Sun, Moon and planets were positioned for the date, time and place of birth you enter. This free birth chart calculator shows the placements people most often search for, including the Big Three—Sun, Moon and rising sign—plus Mercury, Venus, Mars and house context when the birth time is reliable.
01
NATAL CHART BASICS
What is a natal chart in astrology?
A natal chart is the full astrology chart for your birth moment. Your Sun sign is one part of it; the chart can also include the Moon, Ascendant or rising sign, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, outer planets, houses and aspects.
That is why a natal chart calculator gives a more detailed result than a simple zodiac-sign lookup based only on your birthday.
02
SUN, MOON & RISING
How do I find my Sun, Moon and rising signs?
Your Sun sign is calculated from the Sun’s zodiac position, your Moon sign from the Moon’s position, and your rising sign or Ascendant from the eastern horizon at your exact birth time and location. Together they are often called the Big Three.
Use the calculator above to see all three in one result instead of searching for each placement separately.
03
BIRTH TIME ACCURACY
Do I need an exact birth time for a birth chart calculator?
You can calculate many planetary signs from a birth date, but the rising sign and houses are time-sensitive. A correct birthplace is also important because the Ascendant and house structure depend on the local horizon.
If you do not know your exact birth time, Staris can still show stable planetary placements but will not present a guessed rising sign or house placement as exact.
04
PLANETS, HOUSES & ASPECTS
What else is included in a full birth chart reading?
Mercury is commonly read for communication and thinking, Venus for love and values, and Mars for action and desire. Houses describe where themes tend to show up, while aspects describe how placements interact with each other.
The free calculator gives you the chart facts and clear starter interpretations. A deeper Staris reading connects those placements into one pattern and adds current timing context.
