BIRTH MOON PHASE GUIDE
What does your Moon phase at birth mean?
Your birth Moon phase describes the angular relationship between the Sun and Moon at the time you were born. The astronomical phase itself is a measurable sky condition; astrology adds a symbolic interpretation about rhythm, visibility, release and development. Staris keeps those two layers separate.

LUNAR PHASE
What Moon phase was I born under?
The Moon’s visible phase depends on the angular separation between the Sun and Moon. Staris calculates that relationship for your birth date and time, then places it into one of eight familiar phases: New Moon, Waxing Crescent, First Quarter, Waxing Gibbous, Full Moon, Waning Gibbous, Last Quarter or Waning Crescent.
The illumination percentage shows approximately how much of the Moon’s visible disk was lit from Earth at that moment.

ASTROLOGY MEANING
What does a birth Moon phase mean in astrology?
Astrologers often treat the lunar phase as a broad developmental rhythm. New Moon symbolism emphasizes beginnings and instinct, First Quarter emphasizes action and friction, Full Moon emphasizes visibility and polarity, while waning phases are often associated with integration, sharing and release.
This is a symbolic interpretive system rather than a scientific personality measure.

BIRTH TIME
Do I need my birth time to calculate my Moon phase?
A birth date alone usually gives the correct broad phase, but exact time improves the phase angle and illumination estimate—especially when the Moon is near a phase boundary.
If the time is unknown, Staris uses midday for the estimate and labels the result accordingly rather than pretending to know the exact birth moment.

MOON SIGN VS PHASE
Is my Moon phase the same as my Moon sign?
No. Your Moon sign describes where the Moon was in the zodiac, while the Moon phase describes the Sun–Moon angle. Someone can have a Cancer Moon at a New Moon, Full Moon or another phase depending on the Sun’s position.
The two can be read together, but they answer different questions.
