NORTH NODE CALCULATOR GUIDE
What is the North Node in astrology?
The North Node and South Node are opposite mathematical points where the Moon’s orbit crosses the ecliptic. Modern astrology often interprets the North Node as a growth direction and the South Node as a familiar default pattern. This calculator finds the actual nodal axis in your birth chart first, then explains that modern interpretive layer clearly.
01
NODAL AXIS
What are the North Node and South Node?
The lunar nodes are not planets. They are the two intersection points between the Moon’s orbital path and the Sun’s apparent path through the sky, and they always sit opposite one another in the zodiac.
The North Node is the ascending point and the South Node is the descending point. In a natal chart they form one axis, so the two placements are best read together rather than separately.

NORTH NODE MEANING
What does my North Node sign mean?
In modern astrology the North Node is commonly used as a symbol for unfamiliar growth, qualities that take practice, and experiences that can stretch someone beyond what already feels automatic.
Staris treats that as an interpretive framework, not a scientific claim or guaranteed life destiny. The sign describes the style of growth; the house, when birth time is known, describes the life area where that theme may be most noticeable.
03
SOUTH NODE MEANING
What does my South Node mean?
The South Node is exactly opposite the North Node. Modern interpretations often associate it with habits, strengths or coping styles that feel familiar and easy to return to.
The goal is not to “get rid of” the South Node. A useful nodal reading asks how familiar strengths can support growth without becoming the only way you respond.
04
BIRTH TIME
Do I need my birth time for a North Node calculator?
The lunar nodes move slowly, so the sign can usually be calculated from the birth date. Exact birth time becomes much more important for house placement because houses depend on the local horizon.
If no reliable birth time is provided, Staris shows the nodal sign and degree but avoids presenting a house as exact.
